War Sparks Political Debate
April 26, 2004--Our country's involvement in Iraq has produced scores of passionate political debates. Some believe that deposing Saddam Hussein was worth whatever price we have paid in Iraq, while others cannot justify the loss of life, no matter the reason. Since time began, there are records of wars and contentions among people throughout the world, and these wars have always been an emotionally charged topic. Whatever your political beliefs may be, war is a historical subject and we can learn from past mistakes, or, as the cliché goes, be doomed to repeat them. In David Flint's new novel titled, Trail of Broken Chains, we read about the period of time immediately following the American Revolution and learn from the experiences of fictional characters in a historically accurate setting.
The author, David Flint, was raised in the Mohawk Valley, where parts of the French and Indian War and the American Revolution were fought. He has developed a love and deep sense of respect for the people who walked this valley and the stories created by their lives. Trail of Broken Chains is a well-researched, detailed account of fictional characters that easily could have lived in the Mohawk Valley hundreds of years ago. It is an account of two young men, Robert Flint and Joshua Wells, and of their adventures as they travel the American countryside. They discover the injustices of slavery, and encounter great danger when they attempt to change what they see as being inherently wrong with their world. Mr. Flint brings them to life and tells their story in the language of that time period.
Knowledge is a powerful tool in anybody's hand, and a thorough knowledge of our history is invaluable. As we continue making our own mark in the history books, it is essential that we know what came before in our country's history. The debates about the right or wrong of war; about the political moves that are, or are not made will continue on. We must be educated about our past before we can make wise decisions about our future. David Flint has created a novel that will entertain and educate the reader about a period of American history that holds many lessons for us today.
